About the CJA

General

The intention of the CJA is to recognize and draw attention to some of the most professional, powerful and/or creative transformative videos out there. To qualify for judging, videos must demonstrate a firm understanding of editing, structure, timing, visual flow and creative composition. We are not just looking for fan tributes that viewers of the shows can enjoy but rather for advanced visual art that can capture the interests and emotions of anyone.

No preference is given to any style, genre, show, subject, music or format. If a video is good, we will recognize it whether it is mainstream or artsy, a music video or trailer, an explosion of visuals and music or a complex commentary. We're interested in seeing and honoring skill, regardless of your niche.

Round Schedules

Rounds take place three times a year. The estimated dates are as follows (subject to change; any updates will be sent to the mailing list):

Round A - Opens on January 5th, closes on February 1st

Round B - Opens on May 5th, closes on June 1st

Round C - Opens on September 5th, closes on November 1st

Judging Process

• When a round closes, the status will change to Closed. Videos will quickly be judged on a general level, based on our guidelines, and those that demonstrate the most technical or creative skill will move to the final round.

• The status then changes to Judging and a list of qualifying videos will be provided along with the categories that each entry is being considered in.

• Over the next few weeks, the judges carefully form their own shortlists of the 5-6 videos that they feel are the best within each category. Once done, lists will be compared and all final decisions will be made as a group.

• When the winners have been determined, the status will change to Awards.

• Awards will be finished a week or so later. When everything is ready, a final update will be made with a list of the results and all award graphics.
